Deep Space Expeditions

Expeditions are special missions in 5Dim that consist of sending a fleet to a specific type of object (planet, relic, singularity…). Upon arrival, a random event is resolved: you may obtain resources, Novas, components, boosters or victory points, but something negative may also happen. They are a way to earn extra rewards without attacking other players. This guide explains how they work and how to prepare well.

What is an expedition?

An expedition consists of sending a fleet to an unexplored region of space, beyond inhabited systems. Upon reaching the destination the expedition result is resolved, which can be good or bad. It is a risk and reward system: to complete the expedition, specific requirements are asked of you that you must meet with the fleet you send.

What you can find

Each expedition returns exactly one of these eight possible results:

ResourcesMinerals, gas or other materials loaded directly into your fleet.
NovasThe game's premium currency, obtained without paying.
BoosterSpecial item you can activate when it suits you best.
ComponentSpecial piece to customize and improve the design of your ships.
Victory PointsPoints that improve your position in the galaxy ranking.
Pirate encounterA pirate fleet intercepts your expedition: prepare for combat.
Destruction rayNegative event that can destroy part of your fleet's ships.
NothingThe fleet returns without finding anything special. Part of the risk of space.

Expeditions are a non-pay-to-win resource source: rewards depend on your preparation and luck, not on paying. They fit perfectly with 5Dim's free-to-play philosophy.

How to send an expedition

Sending an expedition is as simple as any other fleet mission: select your ships, choose the exploration destination and confirm. The important part is how you prepare the fleet.

  • Bring enough cargo capacity to bring back everything you find.
  • Include combat ships in case the expedition runs into danger.
  • Go to the indicated location — each expedition will ask you to go to a specific space object.
  • Weigh the benefit — sometimes the reward isn't worth the risk or the cost of the journey and that time without your fleet.

A good tactic is to send expeditions before you disconnect: the fleet explores while you're not playing and returns with rewards when you come back. Combine it with the what to do roadmap to make the most of each session.
